Autumn Term 2018 - Vikings and Anglo-Saxons
Welcome to Macaws class. I hope you have had a restful holiday and are ready for the enriching year ahead.
Our history topic for this term will focus on the Vikings and the Anglo-Saxons. However, we will start the term by looking at 'twisted' fairy tales in English as part of a whole school writing project. Look out for the results of this in our entrance hall as the term progresses. Macaws class will be reading 'The Lost Happy Endings' by Carol Ann Duffy. A wonderfully lyrical story about the search for the happy endings that are needed to make the perfect story. The children will be planning and writing an alternative ending to this "Losing Tale" including detailed character and setting descriptions. Furthermore, they will write a recount from an eyewitness reporting on the theft of the happy endings. We will also write poetry inspired by the Song of the Witches: “Double, double toil and trouble” written by William Shakespeare.
It is anticipated that the children will spend both half terms studying Vikings and Anglo-Saxons in history.
To keep up to date with what is happening in our class, make sure you regularly check our school's Twitter feed.
I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming meet the teacher evening on 11th September. It is vitally important that this session is attended as homework, use of reading diaries, curriculum, and school routines will be detailed.
