Barn Owls - Year 3/4 2018-2019
Acting Deputy Head, Key Stage 2 and Mathematics Leader, and Barn Owls class teacher. I am also a Mathematics SLE for Ignite TSA. I am a keen endurance runner and have represented Cheshire at senior level. I am currently coming to the end of studying a Masters in Educational Leadership.
Spring Term Curriculum Learning 2019 - Ancient Egypt
Welcome back, I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Year break.
This term, the children will be studying Ancient Egypt and in particular focusing on:
- Life as a child in Ancient Egypt
- The importance of the River Nile, trade and farming
- Religion and the after life
- Tutankhamun and the Howards Carter’s discovery
- Slavery and wealth
- Monarchy and Pharaohs
- Mummification – book of the dead
In English, children be learning to write a portal story based on 'The Scarab' by Pie Corbett and then looking in depth at 'Leon and the Place Between' by Graeme Baker-Smith. Later in the term, children will have the opportunity to go on a school trip to the World Museum to learn about mummification. Children will also develop their geographical vocabulary by developing their knowledge of rivers and the importance they played in developing early civilisations. In science, children will first learn the parts of a flowering plants and then learn about what plants need to grow. This will be linked to our work on the Ancient Egyptians, their reliance on farming and the importance of the River Nile.
