Puffins - Year 5 2019 - 2020
Autumn Term Curriculum Learning - War and Conflict
Welcome back, I hope that you have had a lovely summer break and are ready for another exciting term ahead in Puffins class. There is lots to look forward to this year, especially for our year 6 pupils with their residential trip to Min-Y-Don in October!
This term, the children in puffins class will be focusing on the theme of 'War and Conflict'. In our English lessons, we will be using the book 'Rose Blanche' by Roberto Innocenti in help us write a diary entry and a bravery award speech. In history, we will be looking at World War 2, with a particular focus on the Battle of Britain, as we aim to answer the question 'why was the Battle of Britain a significant turning point in WW2?'
Our Art and DT lessons will also link to this theme as we create Blitz sytle pieces of art in the style of Paul Nash.
Spelling and Maths homework will be set on Friday and due in the following Wednesday. There will be one electronic piece of work and one paper piece of work set each week for the children who are in year 6 and 2 pieces of electronic homework for the children in year 5. Please ensure that homework is completed on time.
I look forward to seeing you at the 'meet the teacher' evening on Wednesday 4th September (3:30pm-4:00pm), where I will be going through information such as homework, PE kit expectations, the curriculum and school routines.
To keep up to date with what is happening in our class, make sure you regularly check our school's Twitter and Facebook feeds as well as our class blog.
