Cryptographer detectives

Puffins children were learning about cryptography - the art of writing or solving codes - in our technology lessons last term.

We learnt the following types of code:

  • semaphore code (using red and yellow flags to send messages)
  • Morse code (linked to Enigma and learnt about Alan Turning who helped break enigma during WW2)
  • Caesar script (used by Julius Caesar to send secret messages that nobody else coudl read)
  • Pig pen script (used by the masons to send secret messages
